The metallizing process takes place in the evaporation zone of the vacuum chamber evacuated to, typically, 5 x 10-4 mbar.
Aluminium wire is fed onto individual resistance heated inter-metallic evaporators where it becomes molten and evaporates.

A flexible plastic substrate supported on a chilled process drum, passes over the evaporation source at speeds of up to 840 m/min. The aluminium vapour condenses on to the substrate and thereby creates the coating layer.
