EU Data Act

Introduction

From September 12, 2025, companies providing connected equipment and/or services in the EU are required to comply with the “EU Data Act”. BOBST has proactively implemented specific measures for appropriate compliance e.g., enforcing transparent licensing to explain how we use the data collected for its connected services.

This document contains additional detailed information about the data collected by BOBST equipment and services.

Information obligation regarding data collected by connected products and related services

The type, format and estimated volume of product data which the connected product is capable of generating

The data generated relates to:

  • Telemetry information: values measured by the equipment's sensors or internal automation e.g., rotation speed, machine state, electrical current, etc.

  • Events information: values sent by the equipment in reaction to specific events e.g. faults, job changes, etc.

  • Other information, depending on the equipment’s configuration, selected options, and level of service.

Each equipment has its own data dictionary that defines the data format; broadly speaking, data is sent as a set of basic types (string, numeric, date, etc.) or structures (arrays, lists, etc.). The details of the variables and related types are provided in a dedicated section below.

Data volumes also greatly depend on the device. As an approximation, a device may generate between 5Mb and 20Mb of data per day, resulting in less than 1Mb of compressed cold storage.

Whether the connected product is capable of generating data continuously and in real-time

The equipment generates data continuously as part of its operations.

For our service product, data is today chosen to be polled from the equipment every 10 seconds; the equipment can also generate information asynchronously (see “Events” above).

Whether the connected product is capable of storing data on-device or on a remote server, including, where applicable, the intended duration of retention

Data is temporarily stored on an additional hardware component installed on the machine which is provided as part of the service product; this component acts as a buffer before data is sent to a remote secured server. Data is kept online for one year before being archived.

As of today, archived data is kept indefinitely.

How the user may access, retrieve or, where relevant, erase the data, including the technical means to do so, as well as their terms of use and quality of service.

Most data can be accessed and retrieved via the BOBST Connect platform. A selection of variables not used for reporting are not visible to customers.

Most data can also be accessed via API polling from the service. There are also instances on the platform where it is possible to extract data as a report or CSV format.
Users need to contact BOBST Support to (1) access the full data or (2) erase data.

Information about generated data

This section provides the details of all the variables that our connected products are capable of generating.

Please note that:

  • The list includes the maximum number of variables that could be collected, assuming the equipment has all options enabled (hardware and software). In practice, BOBST may collect fewer variables than those listed.
  • The list represents a point-in-time snapshot; BOBST will update it regularly; however, minor discrepancies may occur.
