How BOBST is helping MTL Carton to go from strength to strength

Gediminas Čiučelis, MTL Carton’ Managing Director, is talking about the company’s long-standing partnership with BOBST. MTL Carton is one of the most modern and rapidly growing printing houses in the whole Baltic region, based in Lithuania. The company was founded in 1997 as a publishing house, but 1999 was a turning point, when they purchased their first BOBST machine and moved into packaging production.

“Back in 1999, we realized our ambitious plan in the field of manufacturing of cardboard packages with the SP 76 E - brand new BOBST die-cutter, which was the only one of its kind in the Baltic states at the time. Ever since then, we know where to turn to when we are looking to make the next investment.”

“Innovation, state of the art machinery, and skilled personnel were all the main driving forces since the beginning of MTL,” says Gediminas Čiučelis. “That has remained constant, and these qualities are even more important today with increasing competition. The competition creates even more pressure to work more efficiently and with no faults. At the same time all challenges bringing new opportunities, and there are plenty of them.”

Gediminas Čiučelis and the team at MTL Carton recently saw the opportunity to invest in two more BOBST machines: the BOBST VISIONCUT 106 LER – a fast, versatile, easy to run die-cutter that increases productivity, reduces costs, and improves finished product quality, and the BOBST NOVACUT 106 E - a versatile die-cutter which enables converters to meet unusual product challenges at a moment's notice.

“We always look for top efficient machines with the highest performance and quality, so our next choice was BOBST VISIONCUT 106 LER for our jobs that needed blanking, and the simple and efficient BOBST NOVACUT 106 E for very short orders,” says Gediminas Čiučelis.

In 2015, MTL Carton has relocated to a new modern production facility. In 2021-2022, the company continued to expand by increasing the production premises reached the area of 20,000, with a team made up of 180 employees.

Today, MTL Carton is the biggest folding carton boxboard packaging producer in the Baltics, and 75% of the electricity the company uses, is produced at their own solar power plant. The team continues to have big plans for the upcoming years, but Gediminas Čiučelis says the company’s biggest priority is to remain a sustainable, reliable employer and partner in these times of fast and unpredictable changes.

In such time of unpredictability, MTL Carton’s partnership with BOBST remains a constant source of reliability.

“Our relationship goes back more than 20 years,” says Gediminas Čiučelis. “From the very beginning, BOBST proved to be a partner we could count on. The machines are reliable; the service is high quality, and the response times are swift; everything a customer needs from their machinery supplier. Such service allows us to concentrate on the development of the main business.”
