A fantastic achievement from our team at Bobst Manchesterwho have gained the Carbon Literacy Platinum award becoming one of only 11 companies globally to achieve this accreditation. This shows dedication to reducing carbon emissions across the organisation and commitment to working towards a zero-carbon future. We are immensely thrilled to receive this award.
Bobst Manchester started their Carbon Literacy journey back in 2023 with an ambitious target to achieve Bronze by the following year; with a lot of hard work this was achieved, and the aim then was to work towards the Silver award. Fast forward a year on, Bobst Manchesterwas then presented with the Silver Award. In 2026 we fast-tracked our award journey by gaining Gold accreditation along with Platinum accreditation. To date we are the only packaging machine manufacturer to gain this accreditation, and we plan to embed Carbon Literacy further into our BOBST ethos.
Our commitment to sustainability started with the ambitious target to gain our Platinum accreditation by 2026, which we are thrilled to be rewarded with. We first started our platinum journey mid-2025, and by November 2025 we conducted three face-to-face, one day training sessions across different areas of the business ranging from electrical engineering to accounting; to date over 80% of the workforce at Bobst Manchester have been trained. Following the training we gained valuable feedback from our employees about the value this training has in their own personal life but also in their work life. We had our employees pledge personal actions to reduce their carbon footprint which many undertook following the training.
We saw the great value in embedded Carbon Literacy within BOBST ethos by conducting further Carbon Literacy training at our BOBST Uk & Ireland site in which a group of employees from a range of departments participated in the training.
Following the success of the training conducted at Bobst Manchester we had the opportunity to work in collaboration with one of our BOBST approved supplier, Arden Dies to facilitate them on their Carbon Literacy journey. They hosted a face-to-face training day with Gwyneth Spence (our Carbon Literacy trainer at Bobst Manchester) and Arden Dies employees. Arden Dies are the leading name in die-making, in 2020, Arden Dies made history by becoming the first UK die-maker to achieve a BOBST certified die maker accreditation for flatbed folding carton from BOBST.
Additionally, there has been a change in the organisational mindset at Bobst Manchester, and a Sustainability Committee of employees has been formed to find ways to promote sustainability and Carbon Literacy within Bobst Manchester. Several initiatives have already been put in place such as the installation of solar panels on the factory roof, the changing of all lights in the factory and office area to motion sensors which turn off automatically, replacing diesel/petrol company cars with fully electric vehicles and setting up a car share scheme for employees. In the Competence Centre, waste is being recycled and in the last year alone, up to 40 tonnes has been recycled. To fully immerse the workforce in Carbon Literacy, the company plans to take part in the Carbon Literacy Action Day in 2026.
