A strategic investment to support future growth.
In a rapidly evolving folding carton market where demands for quality, lead times, and competitiveness continue to increase, SALPAC is taking another technological step forward with the installation of the BOBST NOVACUT 106 E Autoplaten® die-cutter.
This investment forms part of a broader program launched in 2025, representing a total investment of €2.5 million dedicated to renewing and modernizing the company’s printing and converting equipment. This entire investment plan clearly reflects SALPAC’s determination to strengthen its competitiveness and support growth in increasingly demanding markets.
A recognized player in the Algerian carton packaging industry, SALPAC has for several years pursued a strategy of progressively industrializing its production capabilities. The objective is clear: to support rising customer expectations while improving overall operational performance. The company serves demanding sectors, particularly food and beverage, FMCG, and pharmaceuticals, where die-cutting consistency, precision, and reliable lead times are critical requirements.
Meeting the challenges of a demanding market.
In this context, die-cutting represents a key lever for competitiveness. SALPAC needed to handle growing production volumes while reducing downtime and ensuring consistent output quality. The choice of the NOVACUT 106 E proved to be the logical response to these challenges, by offering an effective balance between converting performance, flexibility, and cost control.
Positioned in the high value-added die-cutting segment, the BOBST NOVACUT 106 E stands out for its level of automation, production stability, and ability to maintain consistent quality at high operating speeds. At SALPAC, the first operational results confirm significant gains, including productivity increases of between 20-30%, combined with a 25% reduction in makeready times and approximately 15% fewer machine stoppages. These results demonstrate a tangible improvement in the overall efficiency of the die-cutting line.
Beyond pure performance, benefits are also evident in material efficiency. Improved die-cutting precision helps reduce waste by around 10%, while ensuring greater production repeatability. This is a key advantage in the context of cost pressure and resource optimization.
The machine installation was supported by BOBST’s technical teams, including operator training and start-up assistance. This support was essential in securing the rapid ramp-up of the equipment and ensuring efficient adoption by production teams. This service dimension fully reflects the long-term partnership approach that characterizes the relationship between the two companies.
A partnership built over nearly six decades.
This relationship is also illustrated by the long-standing presence of BOBST equipment within SALPAC’s machine park. As early as the late 1960s, the company invested in converting equipment, notably a PCR 880 high-speed folder-gluer and an Autoplaten® SP 900 die-cutting press, demonstrating the robustness and longevity of the installed technologies. This historical foundation was progressively strengthened with more recent equipment, including a NOVACUT 106 E installed in 2013, followed by the arrival of the new-generation NOVACUT 106 E in 2025.
At the same time, SALPAC has also expanded its folder-gluer capabilities with solutions such as the VISIONFOLD 110 and the AMBITION 76, illustrating a comprehensive carton converting approach based on complementary and consistent technologies. This technological continuity, covering both die-cutting and finishing, reflects a strong and long-term partnership with BOBST.
Strengthening market positioning for the future
Today, with the commissioning of the new NOVACUT 106 E, and more broadly through the investment plan launched in 2025, SALPAC is strengthening not only its production capabilities but also its positioning in markets where responsiveness and execution quality make the difference. The company is therefore equipping itself to support its customers’ evolving needs while preparing to seize new business opportunities.
For Khaled Akouche, Chairman and CEO of SALPAC Emballage, this investment marks a logical step in the company’s development journey: “Our partnership with BOBST is built for the long term and represents a key driver of our growth. With the NOVACUT 106 E, we are significantly improving our converting efficiency while further strengthening our quality standards.”
Continuing the modernization journey.
This investment program confirms SALPAC’s commitment to continuing the modernization of its converting operations. The partnership with BOBST will continue to play a central role in this dynamic, paving the way for new projects and the sustainable enhancement of the company’s converting performance.
