Market changes during the pandemic have heated the labels sector. Online sales growth and increased demand from segments such as food, hygiene and cosmetics were factors that strengthened the packaging industry, including labels.

New challenges appeared along with this growth. One of them is the supply of small quantities, and the most usual production technology in the segment, currently, is flexography, which is not suitable for small runs. In that case what would be the best alternative?
According to Eduardo Petroni, Managing Director of Bobst Latinoamerica do Sul, the best option to meet not only this new demand, but other challenges in the sector, is to invest in digital inkjet printing.

The investment in new and modern digital presses that deliver high-quality images and have great production capacity, bring new sales and delivery opportunities to the label industry. The director says that many companies have already invested or are seeking to invest in this technology, however, “The market is eager for new players, and especially new technologies and that is precisely what we brought to Brazil. We’ve already had more than 40 large and medium-sized customers at our demo center in Itatiba-SP evaluating the BOBST LB702-UV digital inkjet press,” he says.

The press that Eduardo Petroni cites, as well as the LB701-UV, are part of BOBST’s recent investment to serve the digital printing market. The director explains that BOBST’s strong presence in almost 70% of the packaging market allowed the company a few years ago to develop a solution that goes beyond excellent printing. “We offer to the customer, not only and exclusively a product, a first-class technology, but a differentiated after-sales service,” he comments.

Eduardo also believes that these new presses should not replace flexo technology but complement the existing technology. “With digital printing equipment, our customers will have in their hands the possibility to offer their customers a wider range of services. And they will be able to decide what is best suited for the need they have now, being able to put in the balance of time and cost, and decide what will be the best option,” he says.

Petroni also states that BOBST’s more than 130 years of market experience allows the company to bring to the industry its largest differentiator, a complete solution. “The BOBST combination of high-tech products, highly skilled and knowledgeable professionals of digital technology applied to labels, a robust infrastructure that supports after-sales service, a significant inventory of parts, and, mainly, the know-how to understand the packaging market as a whole, offers the best cost-benefit in the market,” he adds.

All of this is available to see live via the BOBST open doors program, whereby our Demo Center is open permanently to receive visitors so they can get to know the technology. Book your visit!

In the next episode, Fernando Vasconcelos, Sales Manager of Technology, talks more about the differentiators that BOBST is bringing to customers in Brazil.
