Bobst Manchester aims for Platinum accreditation in Carbon Literacy

Following on from the news in early 2025 that Bobst Manchester had gained Silver accreditation in Carbon Literacy, the company is now working towards Platinum. This demonstrates continued dedication to reducing carbon emissions across the organisation and commitment to working towards a zero-carbon future.

Bobst Manchester started their Carbon Literacy journey back in 2023 and in just two years achieved both Bronze and Silver Awards. A lot of work has gone into achieving the awards driven by Gwyneth Spence as Carbon Literacy Trainer.

The company’s commitment to sustainability started with an ambitious target to gain Platinum accreditation by 2026, which they are well on the way to achieving. The push towards Platinum began in November 2025 with three face-to-face, one day training sessions across different areas of the business ranging from electrical engineering to accounting; to date over 80% of the workforce at Bobst Manchester have been trained. Following the training, valuable feedback was gained from employees about the value the training has had in both their work lives and personal lives. Further value was seen in embedding Carbon Literacy within BOBST ethos by conducting further Carbon Literacy training at the BOBST Uk & Ireland site in which a group of employees from a range of departments participated in the training.

Following the success of the training conducted at Bobst Manchester, the company plans to work in collaboration with BOBST approved supplier, Arder Dies to facilitate them on their Carbon Literacy journey. A face-to-face training day with Gwyneth Spence, Bobst Manchester Carbon Literacy trainer and Arden Dies employees is planned. Arden Dies are the leading name in die-making, in 2020 they made history by becoming the first UK die-maker to achieve a BOBST certified die maker accreditation for flatbed folding carton.

Nick Copeland, R&D Director (Barrier Solution) at Bobst Manchester said "Embedding Carbon Literacy within Bobst Manchester has allowed our cross functional workforce to become more knowledgeable about carbon reduction ideas and has become a great match for our sustainability journey. Following the training, I am very honoured to share that over 80% of our workforce have become certified in Carbon Literacy! This is a fantastic achievement for us and has solidified sustainability and carbon savings within our company vision and culture"

A Carbon Literate Organisation (CLO) has been accredited by The Carbon Literacy Project as being “culturally Carbon Literate”, meaning a substantial portion of its workforce are Carbon Literate. CLO accreditation is a tiered system with Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum levels, requiring increasing levels of commitment to action on climate change and creating a low-carbon culture.
