Long-time BOBST colleagues receive richly deserved
industry accolades

BOBST UK & Ireland is delighted to see colleagues Neil Jones and Steve Caunt be recognized by the industry for their decades of exemplary service, as they prepare to step out of the print industry and enjoy well-earned retirement.

At recent industry events, Neil was honored with the FIA UK Long Service Award and Steve was bestowed with an Outstanding Achievement Award by BPIF Cartons.

Storied careers

Neil began his journey in 1988 as a Field Service Technician with Bobst Group (UK & Ireland) Ltd., building a formidable technical foundation and a reputation for expertise and integrity. By 1993, his knowledge and passion for the craft led him into training, where he served as an instructor for corrugated flat-bed die cutters and sheet-fed flexo presses.

He moved into management and senior leadership roles from the mid-1990s onwards. This has included leading the UK arm of the BOBST business for the previous 16 years, as well as a four-year stint as President of Bobst Group Japan.

This role broadened his global perspective and reinforced his ability to lead across cultures and markets. When he returned to the UK in 2010 as Managing Director of Bobst Group UK & Ireland, his remit quickly expanded to include oversight of the Benelux and Scandinavian markets, where he drove the strategic expansion of BOBST Services, reinforcing customer support, operational performance, and long-term partnerships across the region.

Steve, meanwhile, started his working life as a mechanical engineering apprentice aged 17 and has gone on to build a career defined by technical excellence, consistency, and an unwavering commitment to customers. Throughout 17 years as a Field Service Technician, he successfully installed, relocated, and maintained a wide range of complex machinery, often resolving critical issues under pressure. His approach is straightforward and effective with no fuss and no drama, and his ability to manage challenging situations with clarity and confidence made him a trusted figure across the business.

This continued as Steve transitioned into a Technical Service Specialist role, and he quickly became the go-to expert for machinery-related issues and broader engineering advice, consistently providing clear, practical guidance.

With both Neil and Steve preparing to retire at the end of 2026, their presence will continue to be felt for years to come.

BOBST Group CEO Jean-Pascal Bobst says: “We thank Neil and Steve for their unwavering commitment and service to BOBST over the last four decades.

“Their exemplary service and passion for our industry is an example to us all and has inspired those around them to achieve bigger and better things. They will be missed and we wish them both a happy retirement.”

Future-forward leadership

Alongside operational roles, Neil and Steve have played an important part in developing future flexo leaders.

As an instructor for corrugated flat-bed die cutters and sheet-fed flexo presses, Neil directly shaping the next generation of engineers and operators.

During his tenure in service leadership and later as Managing Director, he also championed apprenticeships and early-career development, supporting the training of 11 apprentices (9 Field Service Technicians and 2 Customer Care specialists).

In his roles with the then EFIA and latterly FIA UK, Neil has continued to play a pivotal role in promoting flexography, collaboration, and innovation across the UK and Europe, as well as supporting initiatives to attract young talent into print and packaging careers.

‘Uncle Steve’, as he is affectionately known, has supported and coached younger engineers to shape the next generation of talent. Steve has played a pivotal role in developing new technicians and apprentices by sharing his knowledge with a calm, measured approach, instilling not only technical skills but also a strong work ethic and pride in the job.

His approachable nature and willingness to help have created a lasting cultural impact within BOBST, reinforcing collaboration, learning, and high standards of workmanship.

Passing the baton

With Neil and Steve now looking forward to retirement, those who have worked with them and know them best reflect fondly on their impact.

BOBST UK & Ireland Technical Service Manager Allan Pinfold, and Steve’s line manager, notes: “Steve’s career reflects deep expertise, a strong commitment to customer service, and the ability to evolve with changing technologies and business needs.

“He is held in the highest regard by customers, suppliers, and peers for his reliability, integrity, and dedication.”

Mike Bowers, Field Service Manager at BOBST UK & Ireland, says: “Throughout his career, Steve has consistently demonstrated a genuine commitment to both the business and customers in everything he does. His technical expertise is truly second to none, and he has always set the standard for excellence.

“Above all, Steve is one of the most trusted, reliable, and conscientious colleagues I have had the pleasure to work with.”

Neil’s successor is Craig Moran, General Manager and Sales Director – BOBST Northern Europe, who says: “I’ve known Neil for 24 years and worked closely with him since 2010 when he came back to the UK after his time in Japan. Neil built a management team and set the direction for the business, focusing on strategy and people development. It’s been a pleasure and an honor being part of this team.”

Craig concludes: “We are extremely lucky to have been able to call Neil and Steve colleagues and friends for so long.

“People are the backbone of the industry. The impact and influence of Neil and Steve will not be forgotten and will be felt for years to come as we wish them both a long and happy retirement.”
