Digitalization, connectivity and automation combine seamlessly in the Job and Recipe Management Workflow.
This functionality, available on all folder-gluers for folding cartons, enables remote connection via the BOBST Connect platform to all machines equipped with HMI SPHERE. This facilitates back-office job preparation and provides access to valuable information such as production data and reports.
Proactive job preparation offers numerous advantages for converters. Job parameters can be defined away from the busy production floor, leveraging data from different departments and production sites. Using the original job PDF, entire production lines - such as the MASTERFOLD 110 equipped with an ACCUCHECK inline quality control system and CARTONPACK 4 automatic packer - can be programmed in the office by multiple people. This ensures alignment with customer and production needs, guaranteeing continuity and establishing a clear production chronology.
Once the job recipe is sent to the shop floor, the operator responsible for folding and gluing can access a list of prepared jobs ready for download on the HMI. Selecting a job automatically configures all automated machine parts and functions for the MASTERFOLD line. The Matic function on the MASTERFOLD 110 and CARTONPACK 4 sets up the main machine parts, while the ACCUCHECK is programmed for a zero-fault quality control based on specific customer requirements. This reduces operator workload, enabling them to focus on production while benefiting from additional uptime saved by the accelerated setup.
The workflow extends beyond the initial setup. On the shop floor, any changes made during production are sent back to the BOBST Connect platform. This central hub collects data and is compares incoming and outgoing job parameters to create a twin PDF containing both initial and updated information. This updated version provides the base for future runs of the job – whether on the same machine in the same factory or another machine at a different location – ensuring consistency and continuous improvement across shifts and production sites.
Data gathered through BOBST Connect also enables comprehensive overviews, statistics, and reports via Performance Management and Equipment Monitoring functions. Automated reporting provides insights into productivity, quality, production summaries per machine or plant, trend values, and job progress indicators. These insights help identify performance gaps to improve resource planning. Additionally, with the recently introduced Energy Monitoring function, converters can monitor air and electricity consumption to promote cost-efficient and more sustainable folding-gluing.
